How safe is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is extremely safe! It is a completely natural, drug-free therapy. Each acupuncture needle is sterile and is used only one time before being discarded.

How can I know if acupuncture will work for me?

Acupuncture works for about 96% of people. Only about 4% of people will not be able to experience the effects of acupuncture.

Will the needles hurt when they are inserted?

Not usually. You may feel a slight pinch when the needle is inserted, but afterwards the area will just feel a little heavy. This is called the ‘de-qi‘ sensation.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends completely on the person and the condition. Some people experience immediate relief, while others have conditions that require more treatments to resolve. Chronic conditions, such as arthritis, take longer to treat and may take anywhere from 12-15 treatments or more; whereas an acute condition like a cold may only take between two to three treatments. If you can, try to schedule your treatments close together, as the treatments build upon each other to increase the rate and longevity of relief.

Will my insurance cover acupuncture?

Insurance coverage varies from provider to provider. Contact your insurance provider to learn what kind of care is covered. I will be happy to provide you with a bill to submit to your insurance provider.

How much does acupuncture cost?

Rates can vary depending on if it is an initial visit or a follow-up, acupuncture or herbs. Please don’t hesitate to contact me about your symptoms or condition so we can figure out what treatment is right for you.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Be sure to eat before you come in. Wear loose clothing such as shorts or sweat pants so that your arms and legs are accessible, since these areas are needled the most during acupuncture.

Your first visit will usually take about an hour an a half, but leave a two hour window in case it runs over.

Lastly, feel free to come with any questions you may have. I am here to help you or refer you to someone who can.

Is there anything I should do after my appointment?

All you need to do is drink plenty of water and rest. Stay away from any strenuous exercise for up to six hours after treatment.

Is there anything I should do in between my visits?

Write down any changes you experience after treatment.
